Old Town Welcomes St. Elmo’s Coffee Pub

Old Town North has a new option for your caffeine fix with the opening of St. Elmo’s Coffee Pub. The new coffee shop is open at 529 Montgomery Street, the owners announced Saturday. It is the sister shop of St. Elmo’s Coffee Pub on Mount Vernon Avenue in the Del Ray neighborhood, which opened in 1996. Winterfest Holiday Market To Be Held By Lorton Workhouse

First Semester Launched Virtually By Virginia Tech’s New “Innovation Campus”

Virginia Tech’s new “Innovation Campus” has launched its first semester virtually. The school said last week that the university officials have decided to take classes entirely online for its initial semester as the pandemic rages on. Meanwhile, the city of Alexandria and Virginia Tech’s team of architects, lawyers, and planners are making quick work of the entitlement process for the planned $1 billion campuses. Young Men’s Christian Association Holds Summer Camp

YMCA is holding summer camps which are a good opportunity for children of essential workers. The summer camps will be held at six locations in the D.C. metropolitan region. The organization was unable to offer summer camp at its Alexandria location because of capacity and limited space. However,  Alexandrians could enroll their children in camps in Maryland and D.C. Alexandria Police Department’s K-9 Taz To Receive Body Armor

The Alexandria Police Department’s K-9 Taz will receive a bullet and stab protective vest. K-9 Taz is a 2-year old German Shepherd who was imported from Hungary. The vest is a donation from local residents Chuck and Cathy Rey and the nonprofit organization Vested Interest in K-9s, Inc. The delivery of the vest is expected within eight to 10 weeks. A single donation of $960 will sponsor one vest, which has a value of $1,744-$2,283 and weighs an average of 4-5 pounds. Visit Dyke Marsh Wildlife Preserve Near Belle View

The Dyke Marsh Wildlife Preserve is a freshwater, tidal marsh on the Virginia side of the Potomac River in Fairfax County. It is a unit of the George Washington Memorial Parkway, U.S. National Park Service.  Dyke Marsh is one of the largest remaining freshwater tidal wetlands in the Washington metropolitan area. Children Delivered Bouquets On North Early Street

Children delivered daffodil bouquets to their neighbors on North Early Street

According to alextimes.com, “To spread a positive message during the COVID-19 outbreak, school children on North Early Street delivered bouquets of daffodils to their neighbors. A group of preschool, elementary school and middle school-age children who live on the street assembled daffodil bouquets with ribbons and a handmade card decorated with the word “hope,” according to a neighbor. The students then dropped the bouquets on the doorstep of each of the 38 houses on the street. “The gesture proved infectious,” Resident Babette Smith said. “It brings a smile in an otherwise trying time.”
